In Memory of Bob Johnson
Our dear friend and long time member, Bob Johnson, lost his battle against brain cancer on December 26, 2009. We will all miss his wonderful and quirky sense of humor and his imperturbable way of handling and resolving problems. He was always the cool and level headed one at our meetings and events.
Bob served in all capacities of our club from President to “Grillmaster” at our annual fundraising car show.
We know he's in a better place and is watching over the cruise night scene.
Ode to Bobby J
by Jon Oswell
On a cool Saturday night, or a quiet Sunday morn
We gather in our Detroit iron, and new friends are born.
Out of cars our mechanics, carpenters and more,
Waitresses, fire fighters and families galore.
Members of a cult, or 'boomers some observers say,
But we all know why the cars are lining up today.
We meet 'cause of an affection, a marriage I have heard,
To a Chevy, or a Plymouth, or an old Thunderbird.
Out of love for wheels came a club that Bobby J chose to lead.
He did it as President, Secretary and where there was a need.
He kept us on an even keel, with “Robert's Rules” he read,
He kept us all together with brotherhood he spread.
As we gather to take a cruise, we think of words he'd say
He'd want us to remember, why we worked so hard to play.
Bobby's work kept us safe when we were asleep,
And his brother fire fighters, we prayed our souls to keep.
I'll think of him whenever the summer sky is red,
Glowing in the West and far above my head.
Sunset colors in the clouds makes heavens fury grow,
'til Bobby and his fallen brothers crush the fiery glow.
Darkness falls and stars appear, oh it's so sublime,
Bobby helps God each night, keeping sunsets in line.
Thanks, Bobby
